    Guidance Software Expands Cloud Support

    Pasadena-based Guidance Software, which develops digital forensics software and tools, said today that it has expanded its cloud-based data collection support. The company said its updated software now has additional ability to collect stored information from cloud-based data services, and a new way to search evidence collected from previous cases by the software. Guidance Software's products are used to manage electronic discovery of email and other corporate data.

    Ranker Names COO, Taps Jones For Board

    Los Angeles-based Ranker, the online service which allows anyone to list and rank things on any topic, said today that it has named Mani Dhillon as Chief Operating Officer, and tapped former MySpace CEO Michael Jones for its board. The company, headed by Clark Benson, said that Dhillon was most recently the GM of Urbanspoon, and has also served at EA Mobile and Cisco. Jones, who is CEO of Santa Monica-based Science, was formerly CEO of MySpace, and also founded Tsavo Media and Userplane. Ranker said it is now getting around 4.5 million monthly unique visitors. Ranker is venture backed by Draper Associates, Rincon Venture Partners, Siemer Ventures, Pasadena Angels, and the Tech Coast Angels.

    Elon Musk To Deliver Caltech Commencement

    California Institute of Technology in Pasadena said over the weekend that Elon Musk, the technology mogul who founded SpaceX and Tesla Motors, and co-founded PayPal, will deliver this year's commencement address in June. Caltech said Musk will deliver the commencement address for the school on June 15th at its campus in Pasadena. The school said that Musk will talk about how "brilliant, big ideas can and will have a positive impact in the world." [Read more...]

    Guidance Software Names Two Execs

    Pasadena-based Guidance Software, the developer of computer forensics and e-discovery software, said this morning that it has named Daniel Lim as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, and Alex Adrianopoulos as Vice President of Marketing. Lim has been at Guidance Software since 2007, serving as Assistant General Counsel, and also previously served at Jones Day, McGlinckey Stafford, and Beck, Redden & Secrest, among other positions. Adrianopoulos joins Guidance Software from Oracle, and also has served at Sun Microsystems, SeeBeyond, MineShare, Technology Solutions Company, Arbor Software and IRI Software.

    Arrowhead Research Inks Deal With Alnylam

    Pasadena-based Arrowhead Research and RNAi therapeutics firm Alnylam Pharmaceuticals announced this morning that the two are in a collaboration and licensing agreement. Financial details of the agreement were not announced. THe two said that Arrowhead will receive a license from Alnylam to develop a RNAi therapeutic aimed at the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). The companies said the license enables the discovery, development, and commercialization of an RNAi therapeutic targeting the hepatitis B virus (HBV) by Arrowhead, with Alnylam receiving milestone payments and royalties on sales of products derived from that license. Arrow head will also be providing its Dynamic Polyconjugate (DPC) delivery technology to Alnylam, for similar milestone and royalty terms.
